Biography

Sergi Subirats

Game Systems Designer. Game Dev professor and Scrum Master. Game balancer with nine years experience in the industry.

Some of my professional achievements are:

  • Designing and developing a Random Number Generator from scratch that defined the user experience for over 5 million players.

  • Balancing and fine-tuning over 500 characters, each with 13 stats, 5 abilities, and progression over 3 ranks through a total of 75 levels. Supervising the sound and theme design for each character.

  • Designing all gameplay systems of a puzzle platformer, whose design team I led in the past.

  • Owner of 7 features of the new entry of the ARMA series at Bohemia Interactive.

  • Conducted two web experiments on learning difficulties in people with dyslexia, published in W4A (2016) and cited in ASSETS (2017).

  • Due to my experience and skillset, my profile is most suited to game design, specifically systems design and game balancing.

    Computer Programmer

    As a computer engineer from UPF (Universitat Pompeu Fabra), I am well versed in computer programming. I am experienced in algorithms and structures design, data analysis, and working with the structured and object-oriented programming paradigms. I have worked as a junior programmer at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. There, I developed web-based experiments, including complex data tracking systems; then processed and formatted the collected data to be analyzed with R.


    Game Designer

    I love games and believe they are serious business.

    Having worked on multiple aspects and in different phases of the game development process, I am confident I can do justice to this medium. I am eager to use the skills I have acquired during my journey in data science, QA, and games design, as well as my degree in Computer Engineering and my experience with chess, to produce a game worth investing time on.

    In my current role as Senior Game Designer at Bohemia Interactive, I give my 110% everyday to help the team achieve this goal. And as a university professor at ENTI, I am working to shape the next generation of game designers and developers into something we can be proud of.


    Chess Player

    I am an aggressive chess player who loves the game and is not afraid of going all out in order to fight for the victory. At the moment I have an international ELO of 2219. I can play a lot of different openings, but I believe that rather than the opening itself, chess is about the concepts behind those openings and practical analysis. I qualified as top 10 under 20 years old in my country for 5 years in a row, and currently I play competitive games at the top division in my country as a member of Sant Andreu's Chess Club.
